Bulldogs go for three-straight Tues. at Holy Cross

WOMEN'S SOCCER LOOKS FOR THIRD-STRAIGHT WIN TUESDAY AT HOLY CROSS (7 P.M.)

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off back-to-back victories, the Bryant University women's soccer team will look to continue its strong play when they visit familiar foe Holy Cross, Tuesday night in Worcester, Mass. (7 p.m.).

After a slow start saw the Bulldogs drop their first three matches, a pair of wins to open the month of September has put Bryant back in a more comfortable position in the Northeast Conference standings. Entering Tuesday's match with a 2-3 overall record, the Black and Gold will look to continue this streak with NEC action less than one month away.

After a tough 2012 season, forward Suzanne Sanders (West Chester, Pa.) has put together a terrific 2013 campaign, collecting a trio of scores in the last two games, placing her atop the Bryant leaderboard in points (6) and goals (3).

Last time out, the Bulldogs broke-out for three scores in a 3-1 victory over intrastate rival Rhode Island on Friday. Senior Shana Follette (Plymouth, Mass.) got things started in the 14th minute when she converted on a penalty kick for her first tally of the season. URI evened the score just before halftime, but a pair of Caitlin Hannagen (Richboro, Pa.) helpers in the final 15 minutes, the first to Sanders, and the second to Rachael Ivanicki (Colts Neck, N.J.), propelled Bryant to its second win of the 2013 season. Freshman goalkeeper Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.) made one save in her first victory as a Bulldog.

The Crusaders enter Tuesday night's match in search of their first win of the year. After a tough 0-3-1 start which includes a pair of 1-0 losses, Holy Cross will look to junior forward Gina Righini and junior keeper Carly McCabe to get them back on track. Last season, Righini led the Crusaders up front with 12 points on five goals and two assists, while McCabe logged over 1,200 minutes in net, allowing just 1.11 goals per game.

Last year in Smithfield, the Bulldogs pulled out a last-minute victory over the Crusaders off Ivanicki's first-career score, coming in the 84th minute of a defensive battle. In Bryant's five –year Division I history, the Bulldogs hold a 1-1-1 record against the Crusaders.
