Bulldogs blank Wildcats, 2-0, Friday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – On the heels of a truly complete performance from start to finish, the Bryant University women's soccer team topped New Hampshire, 2-0, Friday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

Junior midfielder Katy Biagi (Natick, Mass.) and senior forward Shana Follette (Plymouth, Mass.) each found the back of the net, but a team effort from top to bottom earned Bryant (4-4) its fourth victory of the 2013 season.

The Bryant attack wasted little time getting started as Biagi collected a ricochet off the crossbar inside the box to grant Bryant the 1-0 advantage at the 9:07 mark of the first half. Putting seven shots on goal, the Black and Gold attack was thwarted by some strong play from UNH keeper Mimi Borkan.

However, the real story between the pipes was freshman goalkeeper Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.), who put together one of the most impressive performances of her young Bulldog career. In total, Conrad stopped six Wildcat chances, including a trio of extremely athletic saves that allowed the freshman to earn her second shutout this season.

In the 51st minute, Follette drew a foul inside the box, allowing the senior a shot at doubling the Bryant lead. Follette stepped up and drilled a strike to the top left corner of the goal, all but securing the victory for the Bulldogs.

Looking ahead, the Black and Gold hit the road for a 1 p.m. match against Vermont on Sunday, as the Bulldogs look to stay strong with Northeast Conference play right around the corner.
