FDU tops Bryant, 3-0, on Friday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Fairleigh Dickinson scored ten minutes in and then added two second half tallies to top the Bryant University women's soccer team 3-0 on Friday night at University Stadium.

In a key Northeast Conference matchup, the Knights (7-6-2, 3-0-1 NEC) remained undefeated in league play, while the Bulldogs (5-9-1, 1-2-1) dropped their second-straight league game.

FDU's Carly Tice didn't waste any time getting the home side on the board and she carried the ball down the right side and fired a shot home to make it 1-0 in the 10th minute.

The score remained that way until the second half when the Knights' leading scorer, Esther Rochon, scored a pair of goals. She received a cross from Tice and buried her fourth goal of the year in the 60th minute before she headed home a Kasey Schiavoni cross in the 79th minute to make it 3-0.

Bryant mustered five shots on goal with sophomore Rachel Ivanicki (Colts Neck, N.J.) recording three of them. Senior Lauren Viverito (Dayton, N.J.) made five saves in defeat for the Black and Gold.

The Bulldogs must put the defeat behind them quickly as they face Mount St. Mary's in a crucial NEC game on Sunday at the Bulldog Soccer Field. The Bulldogs and the Mountaineers both sit at 1-2-1 in league play and are tied in fifth place. Sunday's contest begins at 11:00 a.m.
