Bulldogs welcome Wagner Friday for Senior Day 3 pm

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – With just three matches remaining on its 2013 regular season slate, the Bryant University women's soccer team will look to turn things around over the weekend when they host Wagner Friday for Senior Day (3 p.m.) and visit LIU Brooklyn Sunday at 1 p.m.

After a solid September for the Bulldogs, things have slowed down as of late as Bryant has struggled to find its legs offensively, posting a 1-4-1 mark during October. However, sophomore forward Rachael Ivanicki (Colts Neck, N.J.) has continued to be a bright spot for the Bulldogs, notching a team-best four scores in her second year in Smithfield.

Last time out, the Black and Gold looked strong to open the match vs. Mount St. Mary's, putting a score on the board in the 4th minute of the match on a Michelle Durand (Sudbury, Mass) header (her first career goal). The Bulldogs missed a few more opportunities early on which deemed costly down the stretch as it was all Mountaineers for the final 50 minutes of play, resulting in a 2-1 loss.

On Friday, Bryant will celebrate the careers of five seniors attempting to keep their final seasons in Smithfield alive. In a near must-win situation for the Bulldogs, they will host a tough Wagner squad who enters the weekend with a 9-4-2 overall record, 2-2-1 in the Northeast Conference (3rd place). Sydney McCarthy and Samantha Jensen lead the balanced attack for the Seahawks with 12 points apiece, while Siara Kolpon and Megan Fritz each enter the game with nine points to their name. Katie Marcy has logged every minute in net for Wagner this season, posting five shutouts and a 1.16 goals against average. Last season in Staten Island, N.Y., the Bulldogs opened NEC action with a huge 2-0 victory against the Seahawks.

On Sunday, Bryant will venture to Brooklyn, N.Y., for a showdown with LIU Brooklyn at 1 p.m. The Blackbirds enter weekend action with a 4-10-1 overall mark, sitting at 2-3 in the NEC (one spot above Bryant). Jenn Peters leads her team with eight points on three goals and two assists while Madison Gomez has registered four points on a goal and a pair of helpers. Jessica Sexton has logged over 1,300 minutes in net for LIU, posting a 1.38 goals against average. Last season in Smithfield, the Blackbirds escaped with 1-0 win despite a valiant effort from the Bulldogs.
