Women's soccer wraps up regular season over weekend vs. LIU and Robert Morris

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's soccer team wraps up the 2014 regular season when they welcome LIU Brooklyn (Friday – 3 pm) and Robert Morris (Sunday – 12pm) to Bulldog Soccer Field over the weekend.

After opening Northeast Conference play with a 1-1-1 record, the Bulldogs ran into some tough luck, dropping their next three matches and falling out of postseason contention. Most recently, the Black and Gold fell at Central Connecticut, 4-1, despite senior Emily Barbato's (Sutton, Mass.) first-career goal.

On Friday, the Bulldogs will do battle with LIU Brooklyn, who with one match remaining on its schedule, is no longer in the running for an NEC Tournament spot. The Blackbirds enter Friday's match with a 4-13-1 overall record, 2-4-1 in the NEC, most recently falling to Wagner and Central Connecticut, 1-0, over the weekend. Madison Gomez and Lucy Jones-Gunton lead their team with 13 and 10 points, respecivetly. Gomez paces LIU in scoring with six goals, while Gunton-Jones has fished out a NEC-leading eight assists in 18 matches. Jessica Montrose has logged every single minute in net for LIU, posting a 1.91 goals against average and .722 save percentage in 18 starts. Last season, the Blackbirds took down the Bulldogs, 3-2, in Brooklyn.

On Sunday, Bryant will welcome Robert Morris to Smithfield for the season finale, celebrating the final home match for six Bulldog seniors. The Colonials enter weekend action with a 4-10-3 overall mark, 2-2-2 against NEC opponents. Currently sitting in fifth place in the league standings with eight points, the Colonials need wins against both Sacred Heart (Friday) and Bryant on Sunday to earn their way into the NEC Tournament. Kristin Hamilton leads her team with 10 points on a pair of markers and six assists, while Madison Kozlowski and Antonia Grese enter the weekend with three goals apiece. Becky Schoenecker has made 14 starts for RMU in net, allowing less than a goal a game in 16 appearances. Last season in Moon Township, Pa., the Bulldogs and Colonials battled to a 2-2 double overtime time draw.
