Friars top Bulldogs in a close matchup Thursday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. –The Bryant University women's soccer team dropped to Providence College, 1-0, Thursday night in the capital city.

The Bulldogs (0-3) battled the Friars (3-0) tightly, holding them scoreless for the first 79 minutes of the match.

Providence showed a strong offensive threat, rifling off 25 shots, 14 coming in the second half. The Bulldogs were able to respond to the pressure, forcing PC into only seven shots on net.

Junior Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.) contributed to the defense by scooping up six saves in the match.

The Bulldogs struggled offensively, totaling three shots on the game. Sophomore Haley Reddish (Natick, Mass.) notched two shots for the Bulldogs, while freshman Alex Ralph (Peterborough, Ont.) tallied one of her own.

 The match saw its first and only score in the 80th minute when PC's Kathryn Hiller connected with a pass from Juliana Pellegrini to find the back of the net for the Friars.

The Black and Gold return to Smithfield to play their home opener against Rhode Island on Thursday, September 3 at 4 p.m.
