Despite holding Knights scoreless in second half, Bulldogs fall, 4-0, Friday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite holding Fairleigh Dickinson scoreless in the second half, the Bryant University women's soccer team was not able to comeback from the four-goal deficit accumulated in the first half.

The Knights (12-5, 6-0) got off to a quick start in the first half, scoring four-straight goals, proving why they are undefeated in the conference.

Rachel Hoekstra recorded four points on the night, scoring two goals for the Knights in the first nine minutes of play. Hoekstra was assisted by Kayla Adams on the game-winning score and finished a header into the back of the net off a cross from Amanda Goulet for the Knight's second tally.

The Knights advanced their lead to three, after Hanna Robertson serviced Jessi Reinhardt, who cranked one from 30-yards out, placing the score in the left side of the net.

In the 23rd minute, Goulet tacked on the final score, finishing a rebound from Carly Tice's initial shot, sealing the 4-0 victory for the Knights.

The Bulldogs (4-10-2, 3-2-1) put up a fight, holding the Knights scoreless in the second half and firing off nine of 15 shots on target.

The Black and Gold's offensive effort was led by senior Scout Benson (Lynnfield, Mass.) and junior Caitlin Hannagen (Richboro, Pa.) who each notched two shots on goal.

The Bulldogs return to action in Smithfield, when they take on Central Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m.
