Spitaleri earns Rookie of the Week award
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Amanda Spitaleri (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) was named Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for her production in Friday's Senior Day match against Wagner, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Spitaleri scored a goal on a header over the keeper in the 67th minute of the Bulldogs' 2-0 win over the Seahawks, clinching their second bid in the NEC Tournament in the last three campaigns.
The Long Island native also recorded two shots on the afternoon, with the second finding the net, her first goal since her first game as a Bulldog against Rhode Island back on August 18.
She is the third Bulldog to win a weekly honor this season, with Meghan Dalton (West Hartford, Conn.) and Katie Cronin (Feeding Hills, Mass.) winning Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, earlier in the year.
The Bulldogs enter NEC Tournament play on Friday morning, when they take on top-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson at 11:00 a.m. in Teaneck, N.J.
