Bean scores late winner in Bryant home opener

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University women's soccer team won their first home game of the season 1-0 against Fairfield on Thursday night.

The win makes the Bulldogs' start to the season their best since the 2017 campaign.

"I'm very proud of our team's play tonight. I thought our team showed great mental toughness to manage a close game and combined that with smart defending and clam, confident attacking. I thought it was a very complete performance from start to finish."

  • 88th minute - Bryant 1, Fairfield 0 - After beating a defender on the dribble, Bean curled a 30 yard, left footed shot past the outstretched arm of the keeper and into the left side of the goal.

Notes and Notables

  • Bean's goal was her first of the season and eighth of her Bryant career.
  • The Bulldogs recorded their third shutout of the season in the win. It is the first time since 2016 that the squad has accomplished the feat in the first four games.
  • Kathryn McNeil recorded five saves for the Black and Gold, her highest total of the season.
  • Bean tallied five shots and put four on target. Makayla Griffin had two shots in the contest.
