SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming team was only able to capture one first-place finish in Friday's meet against Northeast Conference foe Central Connecticut, as the Bulldogs fell to 1-1 in NEC dual meets this season.  Looking to get back on track after dropping its last three outings, the women's team was not able to overcome the early hole against the visiting Blue Devils, as Bryant produced a season-low 91 points in the meet.

Central Connecticut jumped out to an early lead in the points column after the Blue Devil's 200-yard medley relay team of Katie Long, Helene Neuhaus, Alex Czaplicki and Kristen Malski narrowly defeated Bryant's Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, Mass.), Brianne Dwyer (Hicksville, N.Y.), Abby Whittaker (Salisbury, Mass.) and Amy D'Olympia (Mattapoisett, Mass.) by 00:01.67 in the meet's first event.

The Black and Gold's sole first-place finish came from sophomore Casey Ostrander in the 100-yard backstroke.  Ostrander touched the wall first with a time of 57.67, giving the sophomore a team-best 10 first-place finishes in 2010. Otrander broke the pool-record for the event that she set earlier in the season against Wagner. The Massachusetts native also recorded two second-place finishes, first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.19) and then in the 100-yard freestyle (56.29).

Freshman Katelyn Kidney (Lynn, Mass.) also put forth a solid showing for the home team, finishing the evening with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.25.  Kidney also generated a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.70).

The Black and Gold return to the water Friday, Nov. 12 at Providence for a tri-meet with Brown at 5 p.m. Bryant defeated the Friars, 158.5-97.5, in 2009 and will face Brown for the first time as a Division I member.
