WOMEN'S SWIMMING LOOKS FOR SECOND WIN OF SEASON
Bulldogs Battle Intrastate Rivals Brown and Providence

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bulldogs women's swim team has had a tough schedule to start the season, but will be looking to pick up their second victory of season on Friday evening when they travel to Providence College.

The Bulldogs will take on the Friars and Brown University in a tri-meet at 5 p.m. While Brown is an unfamiliar opponent for Bryant swimming, Providence has squared off against the Bulldogs in each of the last four seasons.

The Friars emerged victorious over the first few years, but it was the Bulldogs that came away with a resounding 158.5 – 97.5 win last season. Many of the key contributors to Bryant's victory last year have returned for this season. Current juniors Amy D'Olympia (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and Abby Whittaker (Salisbury, Mass.), and sophomore Molly Smith (Belmont, Mass.) were part of Bryant's 200 yard medley relay team that posted an impressive time of 1:55.03 to give the bulldogs a victory in the event.

Current sophomore Kim Carballeira (East Setauket, N.Y.) came in first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:59.31, while fellow Bulldogs Whittaker and sophomore Katie Unger (Orangeburg, N.Y.) took second and third, respectively. Carballeira also grabbed first in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle for the Bulldogs.

Other winners included current sophomore Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, Mass.) who took first in the 100 yard backstroke and 50 and 100 yard freestyle, Smith who took first in the 100 yard breaststroke, and Whittaker who took first in the 200 yard butterfly, 100 yard butterfly and 200 yard breaststroke.

While the Bulldogs will take confidence in having several swimmers with experience defeating Providence, some newcomers will also boost their chances. Freshmen Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.) and Katelyn Kidney (Lynn, Mass.) have emerged victorious in several events adding to the solid core of returnees that have continued to their strong performances this season.

DeBever won in her first ever collegiate meet, taking first in the 100 yard freestyle against Boston College.  DeBever continued to add to her impressive season by placing first and setting a new pool and school record of 1:56.14 in the 200 yard freestyle. DeBever leads the team with 10 first place event finishes this year.

Kidney has had a similarly strong freshman year and picked up first place finishes in the Bulldogs' first two meets this season.

Kidney, DeBever, Smith, D'Olympia, Ostrander, Whittaker, and sophomore Brianne Dwyer (Hicksville, N.J.) have all won events for the Bulldogs this season.
