SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming team turned in another solid performance Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center, but fell to intrastate rival Rhode Island, 145.00-119.00.

Fr. Taylor DeBever set a school record Saturday against URI

Despite the loss, Bryant was able to produce 262.00 total points between both the men's and women's squad, giving the home team a 31 point victory over the visiting Rams.

Freshman standout Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.) raced well once again, setting a new school record for the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:11.27. Her first-place finish was nearly 11 seconds faster than the next swimmer and gave Bryant nine points in the event.

Joining DeBever as a top-finisher was sophomore Molly Smith (Belmont, Mass.). Smith, who recorded a top-finish a week ago at the Harold Anderson Invitational, touched the wall first in the 200-yard breastroke with a time of 2:32.68.

The women's side also recorded a top spot in the 5x100-yard freestyle relay. Katelyn Kidney (Lynn, Mass.), Amy D'Olympia (Mattapoisett, Mass.), Kim Carballiera (East Setauket, N.Y.) and Steph Naumchevski (Waldwick, N.J.) came together and hit the wall first with a time of 4:54.04, giving Bryant 14 points in the meet.

The Bulldogs are scheduled for their mid-season training trip and will return to action Saturday, January 15th for a home tri-meet against Saint Francis (NY) and Siena.
