Bulldogs fall at UMass on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, Mass.) won three events but the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team was defeated by the University of Massachusetts, 180-119, on Saturday (Jan. 19) at Joseph R. Rogers Jr., pool.

The Bulldogs (7-3) were defeated in a dual meet for the first time since November 18. UMass improved to 4-2 with the victory on senior day.

The reigning Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Week, Ostrander continued her stellar senior campaign with three individual victories. She won the 100 back (57.95), the 50 free (24.13) and the 100 free (52.43). The Bulldogs also received victories from Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.) and Molly Smith (Belmont, Mass.). DeBever won the 200 back (2:08.58) and finished second in the 200 free (1:54.42), while Smith won the 200 IM (2:14.35) and finished second in the 200 breast (2:30.31).

Freshman Elisabeth Schauer (Pelham, N.Y.) posted a strong meet, finishing second in the 100 back (1:00.25) and 200 back (2:10.57). Classmate Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.) added a second-place finish in the 100 fly (1:00.38).

The Bulldogs will return to the Chace Athletic Center Pool on Thursday, Jan. 24 as they host intrastate rival Brown. Prior to the meet, Bryant will honor its seniors.
