As a Sophomore: Swam in five events in her second season for the Bulldogs … Mainly swam the 500 free, 1000 free, and 200 breast … Earned a top-place finish in the 1000 free vs. Holy Cross … Finished with her best times in the 200 breast (2:29.60), 200 free (1:55.87), and 1650 free (18:02.44) at the NEC Championships … Finished 13th in the both the 200 breast and 200 free and 12th in the 1650 free.

As a freshman: Excelled in the long distance events for the Bulldogs in her first season ... Earned finals appearances in the 200 free and the 200 breast at the NEC Championships ... Finished 10th in the 200 free (1:54.22) and 14th in the 200 breast (2:27.94) ... Also finished 11th in the 1650, setting a school record with a time of 17:40.54 ... Her 1000 split of 10:37.19 in the event also set a program record ... Won her first collegiate event against Sainst Francis Brooklyn, claiming the 1000 free ... Claimed the 500 free against Holy Cross.

Before Bryant: Four-year varsity letter winner at Canandaigua Academy in Canandaigua, N.Y. … Earned a sectional championship all four years at Canandaigua … Helped the Braves to a pair of league championships as well … Honor roll student. 

Personal: The daughter of John and Maureen Messina, Maria Ann Messina was born on Feb. 23, 1994 … Has two sisters, Catherine and twin sister Julia, who is also an incoming freshman on the Bryant swimming and diving team … Cousin, John Hauser, swam two years at the University of Maryland.
