Bryant rounds out three-meet road swing Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Fresh off of a win against an in-state rival, the Bryant University women's swimming team looks to finish off a string of good performances against Iona on Saturday afternoon. The women's divers will be joining the men's divers in Fairfield, Conn. for an event against Fairfield, Sacred Heart and Stony Brook.

Last Time Out

Junior Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain) led the Bulldogs with three individual wins in Bryant's 204-95 win over Providence last Friday. Senior Jillian Rice (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore Heather Wong (Ramsey, N.J.) each picked up a pair of individual wins and the divers swept the boards.

Last Meet with Iona

Scifo and Rice led the Bulldogs with three wins each in a 2017 victory over the Gaels by a 191-71 margin, improving Bryant's record to 4-0 to start the campaign.

A bit about the Gaels

  • Iona went 2-1 in a four-team meet over the weekend, defeating St. Francis and Sacred Heart by a combined score of 277-180. The Gaels hung around with NEC foe Wagner, but fell in the final races for a 131-106 defeat.
  • Sophomore Willow Lopez-Silvers won Iona's only race in the meet, taking home first-place honors in the 200 free (1:56.27). Classmate Kate Flynn, freshman Kaylin McMahon and senior Maria DiBella all earned overall second-place accolades.

About the teams

  • Megan McLaughlin led the Pioneers with a score of 195.75 in the first meet of the season on 1-meter, while following that up with a 181.15 in the second meet of the year.
  • The Seawolves divers open their season with the meet in Fairfield on Saturday. The swimmers head to Brooklyn for a tri-meet with the Pioneers and LIU Brooklyn.
  • Erin Wind led the Stags in both the 1-meter (206.25) and 3-meter (197.18) in their meet with UMass on Saturday afternoon.
