Bryant takes two NEC weekly honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team swept the Northeast Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Junior Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain) earned her first Swimmer of the Week honor after four wins in a meet with Central Connecticut and Wagner over the weekend. Senior Kelci Abernethy (Chandler, Ariz.) won her third Diver of the Week honor in four weeks after finished first in the 3-meter and second in the 1-meter against the Blue Devils and Seahawks.

Scifo finished with a four-win weekend against two of the conference's premier programs, including wins in both the 100 back (57.72) and 200 back (2:06.69). She also aided victories in the team's 400 medley relay (3:56.94) and 200 medley relay (1:50.37) squads. Her 100 back comfortably leads the NEC a month into the campaign and her 200 back time sits second in the league.

The senior Abernethy posted a combined score of 488.80 on the two boards, leading the conference over the weekend. Her 3-meter (253.8) defeated the field by more than 14 points, while her 1-meter (235.00) placed her just three points behind the leader.

The Bulldogs are back in the pool on Sunday morning, when they host the Catamounts of Vermont at the Chace Athletic Center Pool at 11 a.m.
