Swimming and Diving announces 2019-20 schedule

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Head coach Katie Cameron and the Bryant University swimming and diving program are excited to announce their 2019-20 meet schedule and eager to get the season underway.

The men and women will compete in seven combined dual meets this season and one tri-meet on November 9. The team will split up during one weekend in November, as the men and women swim versus different teams in Connecticut. The women will also compete in an additional meet against Vermont.

"I am very excited for the 2019-2020 competition season to begin," Cameron said. "Training is far more enjoyable when we can get up and race at the end of the week. We have a similar schedule to past years with a good combination of in and out of conference schools. We are fortunate to be able to compete against many MAAC and NEC schools. We hope to be tougher in season than we have been in the past. We have a great roster that is very eager to get going."

For the third season in a row, Bryant will open the season against Boston College. This year, the meet will take place at home in the Chace Athletic Center Pool on Friday October 11, followed by two more home meets.

The Bulldogs swim vs Providence on October 18 and Iona on October 26. Last season the team took home the victory against both of these opponents.

The following weekend is when the men and women split up in Connecticut as the women travel to New Britain to take on Central Connecticut in a two-day meet, and the men go to New London to battle Coast Guard Academy.

The Black and Gold reunite for a tri-meet versus Boston University and UConn on November 9 in Boston, before the women travel to Vermont the next weekend. The team fell to BU last season, while the women captured the first-ever victory over Vermont.

"I am excited about the addition of UConn and Coast Guard," said Cameron. "They are two very good programs and will offer us great racing opportunities."

During the first weekend in December, the U.S. Open Championships will be held in Atlanta, Ga. Select members of the Bryant program traveled to this event a season ago.

The Bulldogs close out the 2019 calendar year at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's annual Gompei Invitational, where the Black and Gold took home the title for the first time in program history last season.

After the holiday break, Bryant swims in three more dual meets before closing out the regular season. The Bulldogs host UMass and Rider at home within 22 hours of each other on January 17 and 18. The team then hits the road for the final meet of the season against Marist on January 25.

Two weeks after the conclusion of the regular season, the men and women will head to their respective conference championships. The men will compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships which are held from February 12-15 in Buffalo, N.Y., while the women compete in the Northeast Conference Championships a week later from February 19-21 in Long Island, N.Y.

The women took home their conference championship last season, while the men finished second for the first time in program history. The women will be aiming for a three-peat at the NECs and to become the fourth school to achieve this feat.
