Kanervo named NEC Swimmer and Rookie of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University women's swimming and diving freshman Reetta Kanervo (Oulu, Finland) was named the Northeast Conference Swimmer and Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.

Kanervo won her first two collegiate events in Bryant's dominant win over Iona last Saturday. She captured the 50 free (23.93) and the 100 free (52.38). Kanervo's time in the 50 free is the fastest in the NEC this year.

In addition, Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain) and Gabrielle Ritzer (Sutton, Mass.) were named NEC Prime Performers. Scifo won the 100 back (59.85) and the 200 back (2:06.75) against Iona. Ritzer claimed first place in the 1-meter with a score of 218.10 and second place in the 3-meter 221.33.
