Chambo named CSCAA Scholar All-American

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant University women's swimming and diving senior Kyri Chambo was named a CSCAA Scholar All-American Second Team selection on Wednesday as part of the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) release. The CSCAA recognized a total of 2,290 (1,270 women and 1,020 men) swimmers and divers as Scholar All-Americans for the 2022-23 season.

"Congratulations to these exceptional student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding achievements both in the classroom and in their sport," said Executive Director, Samantha Barany.  "The CSCAA takes pride in recognizing individuals who excel in academics while competing at the highest level."

To be named to the First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.50 and participate in their respective national championship. Second-Team selections also earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher and met the "B" time standard for the national championship or participated in a diving zone qualification meet. All criteria can be found on the CSCAA website.

More from Executive Director Barany: "Earning a 3.5 GPA or higher is a remarkable accomplishment requiring dedication, discipline, and a commitment to academic excellence. Furthermore, competing at the national level is a testament to their talent, dedication, and perseverance in the water.  These student-athletes have set themselves apart from their peers by excelling in both areas, showing their exceptional abilities and drive for excellence."

Chambo put the finishing touches on the greatest diving career in program history in 2022-23, taking home conference Diver of the Meet honors for the fourth-consecutive year and qualifying for NCAA Zones. She was a three-time NEC Diver of the Meet before taking home the title in Bryant's first year in the America East this winter. A psychology major, Chambo was also named the Bryant Athletics Kati Machtley Career Award winner at the annual end-of-year banquet.
