Dawgs down Binghamton in season opener

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team took down Binghamton by a score of 155-145 for their first win of the season.

Led by Regan Lord's three first place finishes, the Black and Gold racked up nine wins in the meet to get the overall victory.

Notes and Notables

  • Diver Megan Beasley took first place in the 1m with a score of 265.85 on Friday.
  • Natalia Kuipers started the Bulldogs off on Saturday with a win in the 1000 yard freestyle. She clocked a 10:25.33 in that race. Makayla Pearce was right behind her in that race with a time of 10:29.72 for the second place finish.
  • Regan Lord just missed the pool record by less than .5 seconds with her first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke. She put down a 55.72 in that race.
  • Lord also took first in the 200 yard backstroke with a 2:04.72. Freshman Jacqui Fox backed Lord up in the race with a 2:06.35 to grab second place.
  • Lord's third win of the day came in the 200 yard IM in which she raced a 2:10.05.
  • Senior Julia Stenhard joined in on the fun and earned first place in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.29. She also took first in the 100 yard butterfly. She laid down a 57.47 in that race.
  • Marcella Figueroa picked up right where she left off last season by taking the top spot in the 50 yard freestyle with her time of 24.14.
  • To finish out the day the relay team  laid down a 1:37.08 to get the win in the 200 yard freestyle. In a tight race, Figueroa was able to pull out a strong anchor leg to help the Bulldogs get the victory. That relay team consisted of Jill Carline, Stenhard, Charlee LeGallais, and Figueroa.
  • The crowd at Chace Pool was one of the largest for a home meet in program history. The energy and support of the fans helped to power Bryant to victory.

Next Up

Bryant hosts Providence College for friends and family weekend next week. Diving will match up with PC on Thursday (Nov. 2nd) at the Brown University facilities while swimming is at the Chace Pool on Friday (Nov. 3rd) at 5:00 pm.
