STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Bryant women's tennis team took part in the Stony Brook Classic Singles and Doubles tournament over the weekend.

Claudia Hidalgo opened with an 8-3 loss to Stony Brook's Lagvilava in the first round while teammates Lucy Bird and Stephanie Smyers also dropped first-round matches, with Smyers dropping a hard-fought battle with Lehigh's Hempshire by a score of 9-8.

Jessica May Vickers picked up a win for the Bulldogs against Lahens from Long Island University as the Bulldog freshman came out on top by a score of 8-5.

She would fall in the quarterfinals to conference foe Leme of Fairleigh Dickinson, 8-0.

Valaria Couto-Cuervo also picked up a nice solid win in her first round match, defeating Boas of Marist 8-3.  She would play well in the quarterfinal round only to come up short 8-4 to Fairleigh Dickinson's Ferhatbegovic who would eventually win the D Flight title.

In doubles play, Hidalgo and Bird played a tremendous match against Army, matching the Black Knight's point-for-point in every game.

"It was a tough two-day tournament that required a lot of mental and physical strength, but the team really played hard and I'm very proud of the effort they put in," said coach Barbara Cilli.

The Bulldogs will host Providence on Wednesday before heading to Army for the Eastern Intercollegiate this weekend.
