Army ends women's tennis' win streak

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Bryant University women's tennis team lost for the first time since the month of December, as host Army cruised to a 6-1 win against the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in West Point, N.Y.

Falling for the first time since dropping a 4-3 decision in a dual match against URI back on Sept. 14, the Bulldogs (4-2) were swept in all three doubles matches and picked up just one singles win against the Black Knights (9-4), who remained unbeaten in the all-time series against Bryant.

Freshmen duo Devlin-Ann Ammendola (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) came the closest to a win in the doubles department but eventually fell, 8-6, against Margaret Iley and Carly Riney.

Moving to singles, Army went on to win all but one of the bouts at stake, and all were won in straight sets. The lone Bulldog victory came in the form of sophomore Marcela Brandao (Santo Andre, Brazil), who secured a 6-3; 6-1 advantage against Alyssa Gleason to account for the lone win for the Black and Gold on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs will look to rebound next Saturday (March 3), when the squad hosts America East foe Hartford for a 6:30 p.m. match at Rally Point Racquet Club in Greenville, R.I.
