Women's tennis splits week in Puerto Rico
PUERTO RICO - The Bryant University women's tennis team spent its Spring Break in Puerto Rico and participated in a pair of matches during its stint away from Smithfield, as the Bulldogs took home a victory over the University of Puerto Rico but dropped their match against Emory University (Division III) last week.
The Bulldogs took on one of the best Division III teams in the country, as Emory came in at No. 3 in the nation before their match last week. Bryant fell to the third-ranked Eagles, 6-1, to start off the week before downing UPR by an identical 6-1 margin.
Freshman Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand/Hillcrest), who played field hockey in the fall, now stands at 4-1 on the year in singles following a pair of wins last week. She won at the #4 spot over Emory's Lauren Pinsky, 6-2, 5-7, 10-5 to account for Bryant's lone point in their loss agaisnt the Eagles.
Standing at 7-3 on the season, the Bulldogs return home to take on NEC foe Quinnipiac on Saturday before traveling to UConn on Sunday for a pair of regional bouts.
