UMass shuts out Bryant, 7-0

AMHERST, Mass. – The Bryant University women's tennis team fell on the road against the University of Massachusetts, as the Bulldogs were swept, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon in Amherst, Mass.

The Bulldogs move to 10-5 on the season and 4-4 in away matches, while the Minutewomen improve to 12-7 overall with the win.

Due to inclement weather in the forecast, the match started with singles and followed with the doubles matches. UMass got off on the right foot by taking a quick lead in singles before eventually sweeping all six bouts.

Freshman Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) nearly secured a victory in the No. 6 flight after going ahead, 7-6, with a first-set win. But her opponent, Chanel Glasper, battled back to take the second set, 6-3, and Bird ultimately fell in the win-by-two third set, 11-9.

With the win already in hand, the Minutewomen swept all three doubles matches to comlete the sweep. Bird and partner Devlin-Ann Ammendola (Garden City, N.Y.) found themselves in a closely contested bout in the No. 3 flight, but the duo fell by a slim 8-7 (3) margin.

The Bulldogs will welcome Holy Cross to the Bryant Tennis Complex on Thursday (April 12) afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. match in their final home contest of the season. The team will honor its two seniors prior to the beginning of the match.
