Brown named NEC Player/Rookie of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off yet another solid weekend, freshman Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas) of the Bryant University women's tennis team was named Northeast Conference Women's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week, announced the league Tuesday.

Brown collects dual honors this week, earning her first NEC Player of the Week honor and second consecutive NEC Rookie of the Week accolade.  The freshman won both her no. 2 singles matches over the weekend, including a 6-3, 6-0 win over Sacred Heart's Lindsey Post on Saturday to help the Bulldogs edge the Pioneers, 4-3, and even their NEC record at 1-1 on the year.

The following afternoon Brown stopped Albany's Mireille Hermans, 6-4, 6-1, to earn her third-straight singles victory.  In no. 1 doubles play, Brown and teammate Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) picked up an 8-6 victory against Sacred Heart.  An Austin, Texas-native, Brown is an 8-5 in no. 2 singles matches this season and leads Bryant with 11 singles wins on the year.  She is also 13-10 in doubles action.

Brown and the Bulldogs will wrap up their NEC slate on Saturday when they host Fairleigh Dickinson, before closing the regular season the following Thursday at URI.
