Bears take down Bulldogs, 5-0, Saturday in Providence

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In a tough in-state matchup, the Bryant University women's tennis team fell to Brown University, 5-0, on Saturday in the capital.

The Bears (8-3) held the Bulldogs (1-2) scoreless, as they swept them in singles and doubles play. Sisters Ammu and Nandu Mandalap took down the Bryant pair of Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.) and Jovanna Hadzi-Tanovic (Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro), 8-4.

Brown's Alyza Benotto kept the ball rolling in singles play, defeating Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas), 6-1, 6-1. Nina Luiggi (Nottingham, England) battled hard but was edged out of the point by Hannah Camhi, losing 6-3, 7-6, to the Brown Bear. Katie Ta beat Ashanti Campfield (Stratford, Conn.), 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 3 singles slot, while Olivia Hsu moved past Stefanie Arroyo (Gurabo, Puerto Rico), 6-2, 6-2.

The Bulldogs look to end their two-match losing streak, taking on Stony Brook on Friday, Feb. 26 in Providence.
