Bryant opens NEC Championships on Thursday

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The fourth-seeded Bryant University women's tennis team opens play in the 2022 Northeast Conference Tennis Championships against fifth-seeded St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday. 

Bryant and St. Francis Brooklyn will square off no earlier than 11:30 a.m. The winner of Thursday's match will face either top-seeded LIU or eighth-seeded Wagner on Friday. 

The Bulldogs posted a 9-7 overall record and a 2-2 mark in league play during the regular season. Bryant and St. Francis Brooklyn didn't face each other. 

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Ada Boru will play at No. 1 singles for the Bulldogs and enters the tournament with a 4-13 record overall and a 3-11 mark in dual matches.
  • Sarah Hickey slots in at No. 2 singles after posting a 4-9 overall record and a 4-7 mark in dual matches. Hickey was 4-5 at No. 2 singles this year.
  • Leanne Kendall will play at No. 3 singles and enters the tournament with a 9-9 overall record. She went 8-6 in dual matches and 3-1 against league opponents. 
  • Caitlyn Munson slots in at No. 4 after posting a 11-7 record overall. She is 9-6 in dual matches and went 2-2 against league opponents. 
  • Camila Baeza was one of Bryant's most consistent players this spring and will play at No. 5. She was 10-5 overall, including a 9-4 mark in dual matches.
  • Olivia Rondini rounds out Bryant's lineup with an 11-5 record and a 9-4 mark in dual matches. She is 4-2 at No. 6 singles and went 3-1 against league opponents. 
  • Boru and Kendall form Bryant's top doubles team and are 14-5 overall. They went 3-0 against league opponents and 10-3 at No. 1 doubles.
  • Manuela Gomez Estrada and Baeza are at No. 2 and bring a 5-4 record into the tournament. 
  • Rondini and Munson have formed one of the league's top doubles teams this year and are 16-3 as team. They went 12-1 in dual matches and have won 12-straight matches entering the tournament.

Bryant in the NEC Tournament 

  • Bryant earned a top four seed for the eighth straight year. 
  • The Bulldogs have advanced to the NEC Championship match four times, including last year. 
  • Bryant won its lone NEC Championship in 2015.
