WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The fourth-seeded Bryant University women's tennis team knocked off top-seeded LIU, 4-2, on Friday in the semifinals of the 2022 Northeast Conference Tennis Championships.

With the victory, the Bulldogs advance to Saturday's NEC Championship and will face No. 2 seed Fairleigh Dickinson. Bryant's victory snapped LIU's run of four-straight NEC titles. The Black and Gold have advanced to the NEC Championship for the second-straight year and for the fifth time overall. 

How it Happened

  • Bryant claimed the doubles with victories at No. 1 and No. 3.
  • At No. 1, Ada Boru and Leanne Kendall were able to earn a 6-4 victory over the doubles team of Sofiya Kuzina and Valentina Dancenco that was 21-9 entering the match.
  • At No. 3, Caitlyn Munson and Olivia Rondini continued their remarkable season with a 6-4 win over Bianca Compuesto and Phoebe Watton. Munson and Rondini are now 17-3 on the year and have won 13-straight matches.
  • The Black and Gold then won at No. 4, No. 3 and No. 6. Bryant's win at No. 4 made it 2-0 but the Sharks evened the match with victories at No. 2 and No. 5.
  • Munson made quick work at No. 4, winning 6-2, 6-0 to make it 2-0.
  • LIU then won in straight sets at No. 2 and in three sets at No. 5 to tie the match. 
  • Kendall and Rondini, however, completed the victory with three-set victories. Kendall lost the first set 6-2 but rebounded for a 6-2 victory in the second set and then won a heart-stopping 7-5 third set. 
  • Rondini followed suit, rebounding from a second-set loss to earn a convincing third-set victory, 6-1.
