SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Once again in 2009, as it has for the past 15 years, the Bryant University volleyball team got involved in their community, volunteering at the 2009 Northern Rhode Island Special Olympics, hosted on Bryant's campus Saturday.

The Bulldogs were on site to help out as more than 400 athletes competed for the gold in events such as relay races, softball throw, long jump and high jump.

South Kingstown's Fogarty Center won the gold medal at the Games and will be competing in the national Special Olympics festival later this summer.

The Bulldog volleyball program celebrated its 15th year volunteering with the Special Olympics in 2009 and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 2003 for their dedication and efforts.
