BRYANT VOLLEYBALL ANNOUNCES 2010 SCHEDULE

Bulldogs to take on 12 different conferences and full Northeast Conference slate

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head volleyball coach Theresa Garlacy is pleased to announce the 2010 Bulldog fall schedule, featuring 35 games against 12 different conferences as the Bulldogs enter their third season of NCAA Division I competition.

After an extremely successful spring campaign, Bryant looks to continue its strong play into the 2010 season with the help of a new mix of fresh and veteran faces, but the Bulldogs will face many challenges with a tough slate both in and out of conference.

The Bulldogs will take part in a quartet of in-season tournaments, including hosting their own five-team Bryant Invitational on Sept. 10-11. The Black and Gold will knock all four out of the way early, opening the season at the Tiny Laster Memorial Tournament, hosted by Hampton University.

From there, Bryant will travel to nearby Cambridge, Mass. for the 2010 Harvard Invitational Sept. 3-4, and the team will wrap up tournament play Sept. 17 and 19 when they visit the U.S. Military Academy for the West Point Tournament.

The Bulldogs will take on a trio of the Academies this season, hosting Navy on Sept. 10 as part of the Bryant Invitational and taking on Army and Air Force at West Point in mid-September, and will take on teams from 12 different Division I conferences throughout the 2010 campaign, including first-time opponents from the ACC (Boston College), Southern Conference (Wofford), MEAC (Hampton, South Carolina State), CAA (Towson, Hofstra), Ohio Valley Conference (Eastern Illinois), Patriot League (Army), MAAC (Manhattan), Mountain West (Air Force) and MAC (Buffalo).

Bryant will also face a number of familiar opponents, including a trio from the America East (New Hampshire, Hartford and new member Providence College) and a pair from both the Patriot League (Navy, Holy Cross) and the Ivy League (Harvard, Dartmouth).

The Black and Gold will then take on a full Northeast Conference schedule for the second time and will play 16 matches against league opponents, including home bouts against Quinnipiac (Sept. 26), Fairleigh Dickinson (Oct. 9), LIU (Oct. 10), Sacred Heart (Oct. 24), Central Connecticut (Oct. 27), Saint Francis (PA) (Oct. 30), Robert Morris (Oct. 31) and St. Francis (NY) (Nov. 14).

“We are excited to take on opponents who hold such high standards both athletically and academically, just as we do here at Bryant,” said Garlacy. “We look forward to continuing the success we had this spring season as our talented incoming freshman class joins our strong core of returning veterans for the 2010 season.”

The Bulldogs become full members of the Northeast Conference and are eligible for postseason play in 2012 at the conclusion of a four-year transition period to full Division I membership. Bryant opens Year Three of Division I action August 27-28 in Hampton, Va.
