SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Head coach Theresa Garlacy is pleased to announce the addition of seven student-athletes to the 2010 Bryant University volleyball team. Five incoming recruits were signed to National Letters of Intent with two more signing on to join the Class of 2014. The group of seven incoming freshmen include players hailing from five different states and will fill holes across all positions for the 2010 Bulldogs.

Mariah Burgess I 5-11 I Middle Blocker I Urbana, Ill./Urbana HS
Burgess was a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner at Urbana High School... Named a Big 12 All-Conference selection as a junior and a senior... Selected as an all-conference honorable mention as a sophomore... Named a three-year Most Valuable Player for the Tigers (2007-09)... Was a three-time News-Gazette All-Area team from 2007-09... Earned all-tournament team nods in the 2008 Minooka Tournament and the 2009 Mahomet Tournament... Named a Big 12 Conference Scholar-Athlete... National Honors Society member... National Exchange Club Student of the Month... President of the student senate and editor of the yearbook... Played club for Illini Elite VBC from 2005-09... Will play for Primetime VBC this spring... Plans to study actuarial math.

lexandria Clyburn I  5-10 I Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter I Cartersville, Ga./Cartersville HS
Clyburn was a three-year starter and letterwinner for the Purple Hurricanes... Named the Area 6 Player of the Year in 2009... Named Most Valuable Player of the all-county tournament in both 2007 and 2009... In 2007, Clyburn led team to a 28-17 record... Team finished as the Area 6 Runner-up and made it to the Elite 8 in the state tournament... Played club for A5-18s out of Roswell, Ga.... Plans to study communication at Bryant.



Leigh Fishback I 5-8 I Setter I Edmonds, Wash./Edmonds-Woodway HS
Fishback was a three-year starter and letterwinner for the Warriors... Team captain as a senior... Led team to a 35-7 record over her three seasons, including a perfect mark at home... As a senior was named to the all-area second team... Led Edmonds-Woodway to a third-place finish in districts and an appearance in the 4A state tournament as a sophomore, ending the season with a 12-2 record in league play... Team won the WESCO South Championship as a junior, finishing second in districts and earning another appearance in the 4A state playoffs... As a senior, led team to an 11-3 league record and a third-consecutive 4A state tournament appearance... Two-time First Team All-WESCO South selection (senior and junior year) and a second team all-league honoree as a sophomore in 2007... Was named the Player of the Week by the Seattle Times, the Everett Herald and the Edmonds Enterprise throughout the 2007 season... Has broken her own school record for single-season assists per game in each of the past two years and holds the top-3 spots in the category, posting 10.2 aps as a senior in 2009 to set the current school mark... Holds two more school records for assists in a career (1375) and assists per set in a career (9.9)... Played club for Rain City Lokahi from 2008-09... Rain City U-18 team was ranked fourth in the Puget Sound region... Plans to study communication or psychology.



Kendall Gaffney I 5-10 I Outside Hitter I Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain HS
Gaffney was a three-year varsity starter at Cheyenne Mountain High School... Led team to its second-straight 4A state title as a senior in 2009, where she was named the state tournament Most Valuable Player and led her team to a perfect 28-0 overall record... Named the Denver Post 4A Player of the Year and the Gazette Big School (5A/4A) Player of the Year as a senior... Won the league, district, regional and state tournaments in 2008 with a 29-2 overall record... Made it to the state finals as a sophomore as well, winning league, district and regional titles along the way, posting a 27-3 record... Team captain as a senior... Named to the 2008 all tournament team by the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News... Named a first team all-conference selection as a junior and an all-state honorable mention as a sophomore... Four-year honor roll student... Named to the 2008 academic all-state first team... Plays club ball for Colorado Juniors... Plans to study applied psychology at Bryant.



Kaitlyn Klein I 6-0 I Outside Hitter/Rightside I Modesto, Calif./Modesto HS
Klein was a four-year starter and letterwinner at Modesto... Led the Panthers to a perfect 60-0 record in Modesto Metro Conference (MMC) play over her four years at Modesto, posting 15-0 marks from 2006-09... Panthers won the league title all four seasons... Named the MMC's Most Valuable Player as a senior... Led her team to the second round of sectionals as a senior... Named to the Modesto Bee's 2009 All-Stanislaus District First Team... Led team to the Division I state semifinal as a junior... Named a scholar-athlete all four years... Will graduate in the top three percent of her class as a full International Baccalaureate... Will play for Delta Valley Volleyball Club again this spring... Delta Valley finished in the Silver Division, competing in the open division at the 2009 JVDAs in Louisville, Ky.... Plans to study accounting at Bryant.



Mikayla LaRosa I 5-10 I Outside Hitter/Rightside I Marysville, Wash./Marysville-Pilchuck HS
LaRosa was a two-year starter and three-year letterwinner at Marysville-Pilchuck High School... Co-captain as a junior and senior... Earned a Second Team All-WESCO North 4A selection in 2008... Led team to an undefeated JV season as a freshman... Named a high school scholar-athlete from 2007-09... Honor roll student... Will play club ball for Washington Volleyball Academy (WVBA) this spring... Plans to study communication and computer information systems at Bryant.



Nicole Percz I 6-1 I Middle Blocker I Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes HS
Percz was a two-year starter and three-year letterwinner for the Sea Kings... Led team to state CIF appearances from 2007-09... Senior captain... Named to the Second Team All-Bay League All-Star Team as a senior... Earned the Sea Kings' Best Offensive Player Award... Team earned second-place finishes at the North Torrance Tournament as a junior and senior... Also earned second place at the Marlborough Tournament in 2008... Four-year member of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF)... Involved in Life-teen and the yearbook staff... Also served as editor of the school newspaper... Will play club for South Bay-VBC... Plans to study communication at Bryant.
