BURGESS NAMED MOLTEN/NEC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- With 19 kills and five blocks on a 1-1 weekend for the Bryant University volleyball team, freshman Mariah Burgess (Urbana, Ill.) earned the first weekly honor of her career, named the Molten/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by league officials Monday.

The honor was the Bulldogs' fourth rookie of the week accolade of the 2010 season and fifth overall honor for the Black and Gold.

Burgess had a successful weekend for the Bulldogs to earn the recognition, her 19 kills good for second on the team on the two-match week. She smacked seven kills during her squad's 3-1 victory over Long Island, but her best performance came Sunday when she posted 12 kills against Fairleigh Dickinson. The rookie rightside maintained a .409 hitting percentage in the contest, making just three errors on 22 swings.

Over the weekend, Brugess contributed five blocks and recorded one of the Bulldogs' top hitting percentages with a .267 clip on the week. She added three assists and a trio of digs to her weeklong performance, as well.
