SHERIKA NICHOLAS RECEIVES ICC AWARD

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University standout athlete Sherika Nicholas was recently awarded the Jim Thorpe Award by the Bryant Intercultural Center for outstanding achievement both in athletics and academics.

A four-year standout member of the Bryant indoor and outdoor track & field teams and two-year member of Bryant's women's volleyball team as a freshman and sophomore, Nicholas is the team's top sprinter, holding both the top time in the 100 meters (13.20) and the 200 meters (26.97) during the current outdoor season.

Outside of competition, Nicholas is an active member of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority and serves as the Chair of the Finer Womanhood Committee and Director of Public Relations.  She has helped create, implement and promote various events and activities that emphasize the importance of wholeness in mind, body and spirit.

Perhaps one of her biggest contributions to campus during the past four years has been through music.  A regular performer of the national anthem prior to many varsity sporting events, Nicholas performs at various campus events including the Extravaganza, Showtime at the Apollo, and the recent Pluralism contest.

During the past three years, she has been an assistant in the Hochberg Women's Center, where she helped implement new events and activities for various awareness programs.

A Dean's List student, Nicholas has received various awards during her career, including the 2009 Women's Herstory Award, Special Recognition Award, and the Center for Student Involvement Student Spotlight Award.
