Bulldogs set to host Holy Cross

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant Universtiy volleyball team will welcome Patriot League foe Holy Cross this Wednesday, Oct. 5  at 7p.m. at Chace Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs (7-12) look to improve to 3-1 in their recent four-game homestand, as well as stay undefeated on the season against the Crusaders (6-13).  Bryant was victorious the first time around, sweeping Holy Cross, 3-0, in early September.  Following the loss, Holy Cross has gone on to lose seven of their last nine matches, including four shutout losses.  The Bulldogs have seen some ups and downs over that span, but will look to post their first back-to-back victories of the season before hitting the road this weekend to face a pair of NEC opponents.

In their last match, the Crusaders started off the month of October with a 3-1 loss to American University. Layne Hubbard led the team with 15 kills while Hannah Grace Stokes contributed 42 assists. Kathleen Colpoys and Elizabeth Watters both served up two aces in the loss.

On the year, senior Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.) is quickly approaching the 200-kill mark, as her 197  currently lead the team.  Seniors Alexandria Clyburn(Cartersville, Ga.), Kendall Gaffney (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and junior Emily Kaup(Chandler, Ariz.) have all posted over 100 kills as well.

Defensively,  Gaffney and junior Macy Mitravich (Waimanolo, Hawaii) have combined for 452 digs in 19 contests.  The setters for the Bulldogs,  junior Jadith Lorenzo (Lawrence, Mass.) and senior Leigh Fishback (Edmonds, Wash.), have notched 488 and 198 assists, respectively.  Lorenzo also boasts a team-high 22 aces on the season.

Next up the Black and Gold hit the road, traveling to Pennsylvania to face conference foes Robert Morris and St. Francis (Pa.) on Oct. 8 and Oct. 9.
