Blackbirds top Bulldogs, 3-0

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Alexandria Clyburn (Cartersville, Ga.) posted six kills while a trio of others added five, but the Bryant University volleyball team couldn't stop a tough LIU Brooklyn side, falling on the road in the Northeast Conference opener, 3-0, Saturday afternoon.

Junior Elena Lohr (Loveland, Ohio), sophomore Claire Van Dyk (New Richmond, Wis.) and freshman Mallory Wilczynski (Cary, Ill.) all recorded five kills in the loss while rookie Sara DePouw (Oconto, Wis.) and junior Jocelyn Taylor (Marlborough, Conn.) chipped in two apiece to complete the Bulldogs' offensive effort.

Wilczynski led Bryant (2-15, 0-1 NEC) with four blocks on the day, while LIU's Jessica Rice posted a match-best five stuffs in her team's win. The Blackbirds (8-6, 1-0) were paced by 15 kills from Annika Foit, who recorded the contests' only double-double with 16 digs as well. Sandy Zhao added 10 kills, while Adriana Vinas Joy picked up 22 digs for the hosts. Vera Djuric's 33 assists were also a match high.

The Bulldogs remain on the road and will take the court again Sunday afternoon against St. Francis Brooklyn (1 p.m.).
