Bulldogs' streak snapped at three, RMU takes home 3-0 victory

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Rookie Sara DePouw (Oconto, Wis.) posted seven blocks, added 11 kills and served up the only ace of the day for the Bulldogs, but it wasn't enough to complete the weekend sweep, as Robert Morris snapped the Bryant University volleyball team's win streak at three with a 3-0 victory Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Claire Van Dyk (New Richmond, Wis.) led the Bulldogs (7-17, 3-3 Northeast Conference) with 13 kills while junior Elena Lohr (Loveland, Ohio) picked up the team's only double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Setters Carissa Gould (Woonsocket, R.I.) and Leigh Fishback (Edmonds, Wash.) each doled out 14 assists and four digs.

Robert Morris (4-17, 3-3) was paced by a match-best 14 kills from April Krivoniak with 11 more from Erica Robb, who picked up her team's only double-double (12 digs). Melissa Bograd led the match defensively with 15 digs, while Arden Fisher put up four blocks with 10 digs and seven kills. Hannah Hoffman's 36 assists led the contest, and the Colonials finished the day with three aces and eight team blocks.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs saw one of their top blocking matches of the season, compiling 13 on the day as a team. Complimenting DePouw's match-high seven, senior Alexandria Clyburn (Cartersville, Ga.) added five and classmate Kaitlyn Klein (Modesto, Calif.) chipped in four more, while Taylor Onoyan (Crystal Lake, Ill.) contributed six despite seeing action in just a pair of sets. Lohr had the Black and Gold's only solo stuff of the day, while Van Dyk tacked on two in a complete effort.

As a unit, Bryant outhit Robert Morris, .222 to .209, but lost the battle in kills, digs and assists. The Bulldogs will look to get back on track in their next outing, Saturday, Oct. 19, when they welcome Central Connecticut to the Chace Athletic Center to wrap up their current seven-match homestand.
