Bulldogs top former NEC foe Quinnipiac, 3-0, Wednesday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior captain Elena Lohr (Loveland, Ohio) registered her fourth double-double of the season while sophomore Claire Van Dyk (New Richmond, Wis.) paced the match with 12 kills as the Bryant University volleyball team earned a 3-0 road win over Quinnipiac Wednesday night.

Lohr led the contest defensively with 11 digs, matching that number in kills while adding a pair of aces for the Bulldogs (8-18), who topped former Northeast Conference rival Quinnipiac (4-19) in straight sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 to wrap up 2013 non-league action.

The match also saw the debut of rookie Mallory Wilczynski (Cary, Ill.) in the setter role, splitting the duties with classmate Carissa Gould (Woonsocket, R.I.) as the pair each recorded 17 assists. Senior Alexandria Clyburn (Cartersville, Ga.) posted a match-high five blocks on the night, leading Bryant's charge at the net (eight team blocks), while Jocelyn Taylor (Marlborough, Conn.) added four more.

The Bulldogs hit .287 as a team on the evening with four aces, 39 digs and 39 kills, topping the Bobcats in all three categories. The home team was paced by seven kills from Allison Leigh and six from Jamie Paolucci, while Emma Ogden dished out 26 assists with one of the team's three aces. Logan Riker paced the side defensively with 10 digs, while Bonnie Conklin posted two solo blocks with one assist. Quinnipiac hit just .071 as a unit.

The Bulldogs return to Northeast Conference play this weekend, traveling to Saint Francis University for a 2 p.m. matchup Friday.
