Bryant bids farewell to seniors

SMITHFIELD, RI – Senior Alexandria Clyburn (Cartersville, Ga.) recorded a match-best eight kills Sunday afternoon on Senior Day, but LIU Brooklyn got 37 kills and 10 team blocks to stay undefeated in Northeast Conference play, topping the Bryant University volleyball team, 3-0.

Rookie Sara DePouw (Oconto, Wis.) and sophomore Victoria Bryan (Newton, Mass.) added six and five kills, respectively, for the Bulldogs (8-25, 3-11 NEC), who closed out the season and said goodbye to their five-player senior class of Clyburn, Kaitlyn Klein (Modesto, Calif.), Kendall Gaffney (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Leigh Fishback (Edmonds, Wash.) and Mikayla LaRosa (Marysville, Wash.).

Cyndi Asuncion paced the Blackbirds (21-7, 14-0) with seven kills and added six digs. Jorden Jackson's six blocks led the contest, while Sandy Zhao added three more. Adriana Vinas Joy paced the match with 17 digs for the visitors.

LIU Brooklyn showed off their dominance but the Bulldogs fought back before falling, 25-16, 25-11 and 25-22. Junior captain Elena Lohr (Loveland, Ohio) dished out 21 assists to tie Blackbird setter Vera Djuric with a match best. Gaffney led the Bulldogs defensively with nine digs.

The Bulldogs wrap up their season with an 8-25 overall record.
