Bulldogs sweep Terriers on Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Natascha Scarff (Geneva, Switzerland) posted a match-high 12 kills and junior Taylor Onoyan (Crystal Lake, Ill.) had a season-high seven kills to lead the Bryant University volleyball team to a dominant 3-0 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn Heights.

The Bulldogs (6-19, 2-3 NEC) posted 25-11, 25-13 and 25-15 victories to complete the three-set sweep. The Black and Gold hit over. 400 for the day, while the Terriers (2-19, 0-5) hit -.103.

Bryant dropped the first point of the match but eight-straight to take a commanding lead in the first set. Scarff helped the Black and Gold put away the first set as she produced four of the final six points.

In the second set, Scarff, classmate Alexandra Lunsford (Minneola, Fla.) and Onoyan produced four of the final five points to give the Bulldogs the victory.

The Bulldogs put the match to rest behind Lunsford and freshman Cassandra Sulmeisters (Centennial, Colo.). The two scored all of Bryant's final five points and Sulmeisters finished the set with four kills.

On the afternoon, Scarff had 12 kills and 10 digs and hit .280. Onoyan finished with seven kills and four block assists and Lunsford added eight kills and hit .800 for the match. Vika Nesterov (Kfar Saba, Israel) posted 21 assists and Jana Kmec (Stratford, Conn.) added 13 helpers for the Black and Gold.

Bryant returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 18) as it hosts Sacred Heart at 1:00 p.m.
