Lohr, Kmec strong in finale as Bulldogs top FDU, 3-0

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior outside hitter Elena Lohr (Loveland, Ohio) picked up her 15th double-double of the season in her last career outing, leading the Bryant University volleyball team to a 3-0 road victory over Fairleigh Dickinson to wrap up the 2014 season.

Despite tying Central Connecticut for fourth in the Northeast Conference regular-season standings, the Bulldogs (12-22, 7-7) will miss the 2014 NEC Tournament by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Lohr's match-high 11 kills were complemented by 14 digs, while rookie counterpart Natascha Scarff (Geneva, Switzerland) also recorded 11 kills, adding 12 digs, three blocks and an ace. Senior setter Jana Kmec (Stratford, Conn.) also performed well in her final outing with the Black and Gold, compiling 11 assists with three digs and a match-best two aces.

Junior libero Debora Magalhaes (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) once again led the contest defensively with 19 digs, while a pair of freshmen in Kiley Robbins (Garland, Texas) and Alexandra Lunsford (Minneola, Fla.), as well as junior Taylor Onoyan (Crystal Lake, Ill.) added to the offense with eight kills apiece. Lunsford added a contest-best three blocks. Redshirt-freshman Vika Nesterov (Kfar Saba, Israel) paced the finale with 33 assists – a number that pushed her over the 1,000-assist mark for the season – also registering six kills, nine digs and two blocks.

Carly O'Sullivan paced the Knights (6-23, 4-10) with eight kills and seven digs, while Allison Butler picked up the team's only double-double with 23 assists and 13 digs. Corey Lostetter also recorded 13 digs, while Caroline Laton paced the defense with three blocks (1 solo).

The Bulldogs won the match in straight sets, 25-20, 26-24 and 25-13. On the day, Bryant hit at a .279 clip, outblocking FDU, 5-4, and nearly doubling up its host in the kills column, 53-29. The Black and Gold got six aces in the 2014 finale and won the battle in digs, 65-53.
