Bulldogs tripped up by UMass Lowell Tuesday

LOWELL, Mass. – The Bryant University volleyball team had its four-match winning streak snapped Tuesday night with a three-set loss at UMass Lowell.

"We didn't have the intensity we needed for tonight's match. It will serve as a good wake-up call for us as we continue with conference play Friday night." 

How it Happened

  • Set 1 – Junior Kristin Kingi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) tallied three kills and four digs in the set, but the River Hawks closed the set with nine of the final 13 points to pull away for the 25-20 victory.
  • Set 2 – The set was tied at 17 before the River Hawks picked up seven of the next 11 points, moving to set point at 24-21. The Bulldogs would respond with the next three points, pulling even at 24 on a kill by junior Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.). UMass Lowell would answer with the next two points to take the set 26-24 and take a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
  • Set 3 – UMass Lowell opened the set with a 7-0 advantage and led 11-2 before a 7-2 Bryant run cut it to 13-9. The Bulldogs would pull to within four again at 18-14 before UMass Lowell closed out the match with a 25-17 victory in the set.

Stats/Notes                                                         

  • Kingi notched eight kills and 11 digs, good for her ninth double-digit dig total of 2017.
  • Junior Kirstyn Sperry (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied 13 assists and 12 digs for her 13th double-double of the year.
  • Sophomore Nikki Kim (River Edge, N.J.) recorded nine digs in two sets of action.
  • Bryant falls to 4-3 against UMass Lowell in the Division I era.
