Bulldogs host Central Connecticut Friday in NEC clash

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University volleyball team returns to Northeast Conference play with a Friday night match against Central Connecticut at the Chace Athletic Center.

Series History vs. Central Connecticut
The Bulldogs are 4-13 against the Blue Devils but 3-1 over the last two seasons. Bryant and Central Connecticut split the 2016 series with both teams winning their home match. Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) tallied 16 kills, 14 digs and two blocks in a four-set win in Smithfield.

  • Bryant is 11-8 on the year and 9-2 since Sept. 8.
  • The Bulldogs were last in action Tuesday, falling in three sets to UMass Lowell.
  • Bryant opened NEC play 2-0 with wins last weekend over St. Francis Brooklyn and LIU Brooklyn.
  • Junior Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) leads the Bulldogs with 2.95 kills per set this season, while senior Ally Lunsford (Minneola, Fla.) is hitting a team-best .303.
  • Freshman Erika Ward (Rochester, Mich.) has recorded a team-high 4.04 digs per set on the year and matched her career-high with 23 in the Sept. 16 win over Binghamton.
  • The Bulldogs have won 14 straight home matches and are 32-3 at the Chace Athletic Center since the start of 2015. The home winning streak ranks sixth in the nation entering the weekend.

A Bit About Central Connecticut
The Blue Devils are 8-5 and 1-1 in the NEC after splitting the opening weekend of conference play. CCSU fell to LIU Brooklyn Friday before defeating St. Francis Brooklyn Saturday. Raquel Quirarte leads the Blue Devils with 2.78 kills per set, while Lindsey Massicotte has tallied a team-high 4.82 digs per set.
