Bruny, Kim, Gorski named 2019 captains

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head volleyball coach Theresa Garlacy has announced the Bulldogs' three captains for the 2019 season: seniors Brianna Bruny (Biscayne Park, Fla.) and Nikki Kim (River Edge, N.J.) and redshirt-junior Sydney Gorski (Chagrin Falls, Ohio).

"Our three captains are great leaders both on the court and in the classroom," said Garlacy. "Each one brings a unique style in their approach. They are extremely hardworking and trustworthy and will push this young team to success this upcoming season."

Bruny has appeared in 53 matches in her time in Black & Gold, recording a .243 hitting percentage, 1.33 kills and 0.70 blocks per set. The Floridian hit .272 in 26 matches as a sophomore in 2017 and recorded six blocks twice on the year. Bruny is a three-time NEC Academic Honor Roll recipient.

Kim played in all 35 matches in 2018 and has appeared in 61 contests over her career as a defensive specialist. The New Jersey native has collected 169 career digs and 40 aces, including 23 as a junior. Kim has earned NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction in each of her first three seasons.

Gorski returns to the court in 2019 after being limited to four sets due to injury a year ago. The Ohioan has recorded 1.23 kills per set on a .197 hitting percentage along with 0.47 blocks per set as a Bulldog. Gorski was a key contributor to Bryant's comeback win at Sacred Heart in 2017 with five blocks off the bench. She is a three-time NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient.

Bryant begins its 2019 season Friday, Aug. 30, when the Bulldogs face San Diego State in a tournament hosted by FGCU in Fort Myers, Florida. The Bulldogs' home opener will be Friday, Sept. 6, when Bryant hosts North Dakota in its first match of the Hampton Inn-vitational.
