McGovern, Wright earn All-NEC honors

SOMERSET, N.J. – Sophomore Emma McGovern earned First Team All-NEC honors while classmate Alysa Wright collected a Second Team nod, as announced Monday by the conference office.

McGovern was one of Bryant's most dominant offensive forces in 2021. The sophomore led the team in kills in seven of Bryant's 11 matches this season and tallied double-figure kills in all but two. She averaged 3.15 kills per set and posted a .208 hitting percentage on the season (123-52-341). In the first match of the LIU doubleheader last week, McGovern posted a career-best 18 kills to go along with seven digs and two blocks.

"Emma is so coachable," said head coach Theresa Garlacy. "She works hard and always plays with passion."

Wright was key in Bryant's record-breaking block efforts this season. She led the team with eight blocks at FDU to help the Bulldogs snap the all-time single-match block record with a total of 28, but her career-best came at Providence when she denied nine. She led the NEC with 1.24 blocks per set, ranking 43rd nationally, and led the conference with 52 total blocks on the year. In five of Bryant's last six games, the sophomore posted double-digit kills and notched a career-high of 12 at FDU and against LIU.

"Alysa had a breakout year dominating with her block and asking for the ball in pressure situations," stated Garlacy.
