Michelle Muniz '06 inducted into NE-10 Hall of Fame

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University volleyball alum Michelle Muniz '06 has been selected to the Northeast-10 Hall of Fame, the league announced on Monday.

One of the greatest volleyball players in school and NE-10 history, Muniz becomes the eighth Bryant alum to be elected to the NE-10 Hall of Fame.

Muniz's time in Smithfield coincided with one of the best stretches in Bryant program history. She helped the Black and Gold win 128 matches, two NE-10 Regular Season titles and three NE-10 Tournament titles. Bryant advanced to three NCAA Tournaments in that span posting a record of 6-4.

Individually, Muniz put together one of the greatest Bryant careers across any sport. She burst onto the scene in 2002, winning the NE-10 Rookie of the Year award, before capturing NE-10 Player of the Year honors in 2003, 2004, 2005. Muniz was a four-time first-team all-conference selection, four-time AVCA All-Region selection and a two-time AVCA All-America Honorable Mention. She is Bryant's all-time leader in kills (2,320), kills per set (4.67), attempts (5,437) and points (2,796.5), and ranks second all-time in the NE-10 in kills.

Muniz made a name for herself right out of the gates, helping the Bulldogs advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2002. The Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, native led the Bulldogs with 530 kills (4.57/set) and also added 72 service aces and 443 digs (3.82).

In 2003, Muniz and the Bulldogs completed an undefeated NE-10 season, going 14-0 on their way to the tournament championship. Once again, the Black and Gold advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Muniz earned NE-10 Player of the Year honors after posting 596 kills (9th in NE-10 single-season history), 88 aces, 513 digs and 78 blocks.

Bryant completed its second-straight undefeated conference season in 2004, finishing with a 35-6 overall record. Muniz recorded 624 kills (7th in NE-10 single-season history), 77 aces, 517 digs and 70 blocks.

Muniz capped off her brilliant career with another dominating year in 2005. She posted 570 kills, 78 aces, 509 digs and 68 blocks on her way to a third-straight NE-10 Player of the Year award. Muniz posted 32 kills against Bentley on Oct. 18, 2005, the fifth-most in a match in NE-10 history.

Currently, Muniz's single-season kill totals rank fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth in Bryant program history. She ranks first, fourth, fifth and sixth in kills per set and fourth, sixth and seventh in attempts.

Muniz was inducted into the Bryant Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
