Volleyball Hosting Bryant Invitational This Weekend

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's volleyball team will be hosting the Bryant Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center. Montana State, Harvard, and Boston College will be in town for the four-team, six-match event. Play gets started on Friday with Montana State facing Boston College and the Bulldogs taking on Harvard.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Abby Rae was named the America East Defensive Specialist of the Week after recording 39 digs, 15 assists, and an ace during the Hofstra Tournament. She now leads the conference with 48 digs after adding nine in the home opener win against Stonehill on Tuesday. She added four assists, two aces, and a kill against the Skyhawks.

  • The Bulldogs lead the America East in kills through the first four games of the season. They have registered 161 kills so far, good for 12.38 per set. Caroline Kennedy is the team leader with 31.

  • Tuesday's win marked ten straight regular-season home wins for Bryant. The Bulldogs are 14-4 overall at the Chace Center since the start of the 2020 season, and haven't lost a regular-season match at home since last year's Bryant Invitational against Boston College.

Scouting the Crimson

  • Harvard will be playing their first matches of the season this weekend in Smithfield. They went 10-13 in 2021, including 6-4 on the road and 7-7 in the Ivy League.

  • Player to Watch: Senior right side Jaimie Rao was an All-Ivy League honorable mention in 2021, leading the Crimson with 278 kills.

  • Bryant is 1-3 all-time against Harvard, defeating them for the first time last September at Northeastern.

Scouting the Bobcats

  • Montana State is 0-3 so far this season. They were 15-14 (10-6 Big Sky) in 2021, advancing to the conference semifinals.

  • Player to Watch: Sophomore outside hitter Courtney Weatherby leads the Bobcats with 44 kills and is second with 39 blocks. She posted twenty kills in MSU's last game against St. Thomas.

  • The Bobcats and Bulldogs will be meeting for the first time in program history this Saturday.

Scouting the Eagles

  • Boston College opened the season with three wins at last weekend's Binghamton Tournament. They were 17-17 (6-12 ACC) in 2021.

  • Graduate student middle blocker Kate Brennan leads the team with 32.5 total points and five service aces. She was named tournament MVP last weekend at Binghamton and was an All-Mountain West selection last year at UNLV.

  • Bryant is 1-4 all-time against Boston College, including a 3-1 loss at this tournament last season. The two teams will square off again at the end of the month in Chestnut Hill.
