Bulldogs Take on Dog Pound Challenge for Final Regular Season Tournament

STORRS, CT- The Bryant women's volleyball team will travel west to Connecticut to compete in UConn Dog Pound Challenge, their final non-conference tournament of the season. They will take on Syracuse to open the weekend, followed by Lindenwood and the host Huskies on Saturday.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Alysa Wright led the Bulldogs with ten kills, two blocks, and a .412 attack percentage in their 3-0 win over URI on Tuesday. She leads the team in hitting percentage and is tops in the America East with 42 total blocks.

  • Emma McGovern, Abby Rae, and Aubrey Lapour each had eight digs to lead the Bryant defense against the Rams. The Bulldogs lead the America East and rank 27th nationally with 591 digs this season.

  • Bryant leads the AEC and ranks eighth nationally with 478 assists. Mia Cergol and Carolina Camacho combined for 34 in Tuesday's win.

Scouting the Orange

  • Syracuse is off to a 4-5 start in 2022. They were 17-13 (6-12 ACC) in 2021.

  • Player to Watch: Senior outside hitter Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk leads the Orange with 145 total points. She has posted 122 kills, 16 blocks, and twelve aces on the season.

  • The Bulldogs and Orange have faced each other twice before, each winning one match. Bryant won the last meeting, a 3-2 final at the Hofstra Invitational in 2017.

Scouting the Lions

  • Lindenwood is 3-3 this season, their first at the Divison I level. They went 14-13 (7-9 GLVC) at the D-II level last season.

  • Player to Watch: Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Gentemann leads the team with 16 service aces and is second with sixty kills, for a team-leading 78 total points.

  • The Bulldogs and Lions will be facing off for the first time at any level this Saturday.

Scouting the Huskies

  • UConn is 3-5 so far this year. They went 24-11 (13-5 Big East) in 2021, finishing third in the conference and advancing to the National Invitational Championship's Final Four.

  • Player to Watch: Senior setter Madi Whitmire is the team leader and ranks fifth in the Big East with 247 assists (8.82 per set).

  • The Bulldogs are 0-4 all-time against the Huskies (0-3 D-I). They fell 3-0 at last year's Dog Pound Challenge.
