Bulldogs Taking On UMBC in First America East Match

BALTIMORE, Md.- The Bryant women's volleyball team will hit the road to open America East play this weekend, taking on UMBC on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs will be playing their first-ever AE conference game against the back-to-back defending champion Retrievers.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant enters conference play leading the America East in total kills (778), total assists (715), total digs (931), and digs per set (14.55).

  • Alysa Wright ranks second in the league with eighty blocks through 17 matches. Her 283 career rejections are less than twenty away from moving her into fifth in Bryant's Division I history.

  • Mia Cergol posted her 35th career double-double in Wednesday's match vs. Boston College. She finished the match with 24 assists and tied a season-high with 13 digs.

  • The Bulldogs have won each of their last seven conference openers, dating back to 2015.

Scouting the Retrievers

  • UMBC is 7-5 to start the season, including a 4-0 record at home. They have won each of the last two America East Conference titles, and went an undefeated 12-0 in AE play last year.

  • Player to Watch: Sophomore outside hitter Mia Bilusic is the conference leader in total points and service aces, and ranks second in kills. She was the AE Rookie of the Year and an all-conference first-team selection in 2021.

  • The Bulldogs and Retrievers have only matched up once before, a 3-1 win for UMBC in 2015.
