Bulldogs Hosting UMBC, Binghamton to Close Regular Season

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant volleyball team will round out the regular season at home this weekend as they take on UMBC and Binghamton in the Chace Athletic Center. The Bulldogs will have a lot to play for, as they are in a three-horse race with the Retrievers and Bearcats for the America East regular season title. 

Bryant enters the weekend 1.5 games behind Binghamton for first place in the conference, and just one game behind UMBC for the runner-up spot. All three teams have clinched spots in next weekend's America East tournament.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant will be celebrating Senior Day on Sunday. Maggie Ryan, Emma McGovern, Abby Rae, Mia Cergol, Alysa Wright, and Riley James will be honored prior to first serve.

  • Wright recorded her 100th block of the season last Sunday at NJIT, making her the only player in the conference with 200 kills, 100 blocks, and 25 aces on the year.

  • Caroline Kennedy recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs against the Highlanders.

  • The Bulldogs are 9-1 at home this season, including wins in their last six at the Chace Center. They have not lost a conference regular season match at home since March 2021.

Scouting the Retrievers

  • UMBC is 6-2 in America East play this season. They are coming off losses to Binghamton and New Hampshire in their last two conference matches.

  • Player to Watch: Sophomore outside hitter leads the conference in kills, aces, and total points. She had 13 kills in the Retrievers' win over Bryant on October 1.

  • The Bulldogs have lost both of their matchups all-time against the Retrievers, but Friday's meeting will be the first in the Chace Athletic Center.

Scouting the Bearcats

  • Binghamton currently holds first place in the conference at 7-2. They have won each of their last three America East matches, including back-to-back sweeps.

  • Player to Watch: Senior middle hitter leads the conference with 108 blocks. She had eight kills and five blocks in the Bearcats' win over Bryant on October 14.

  • Bryant is 6-2 all-time against Binghamton, including a 2-1 record at home.
