Bulldogs sweep Holy Cross on Wednesday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant women's volleyball team defeated the Crusaders from Holy Cross on Wednesday night in a 3-0 sweep. The Black and Gold improve to 5-3 on the season and are back in the win column.

 

GAME INFORMATION

COACH GARLACY'S COMMENTS

"The band gave us such a great energy boost tonight.  The setters ran a good tempo letting our hitters finish many balls uncontested. Our defense was solid with Josie Deluga leading the way with many diving saves. Brookelyn continues to be consistent both attacking and blocking.  We continue to protect the Chace!"

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs Holy Cross)

  • Set 1 – The Bulldogs got out to an early advantage against Holy Cross and at one point held a six point lead. The Crusaders would battle back following two late timeouts and would narrow the score to 23-22. Following a timeout by Bryant, the Bulldogs would go on to have back-to-back kills from Arianna Ugolini and Aubrey Lapour to seal the win by a score of 25-22. Lapour would total 4 kills in the set and Lea Mackey would tally 2 solo blocks.

  • Set 2 – Bryant would open the second set slow, but found their groove thanks to a service ace from Carrina Barron and two straight kills from Carolina Camacho and Lapour. Bryant would go on to win the second set. 25-20. Brookelyn Talmadge posted 3 kills in the set and recorded a block. Barron would collect another service ace in the set as well.

  • Set 3 – The Bulldogs and Crusaders would go back and forth early in the final set before Bryant would begin to pull away late with the help of a service ace from Josie Deluga and critical kills by Nina Gavin, Lapour and Ugolini. Bryant would go on to win the set 25-17 to complete the 3-0 sweep. Carolina Camacho also posted a service ace in the set and Ugolini would hit.500 with 3 kills.

STATS

  • Bryant hit .293 as a team in the match compared to Holy Cross' .120.

  • Aubrey Lapour led the way for the Bulldogs with 11 kills.

  • Josie Deluga posted a team leading 6 digs in the match.

  • Brookelyn Talmadge hit .667 on the evening and tallied 6 kills of her own.

  • Holy Cross' Rachel Johnson led the match with 12 kills. 

MATCH NOTES

  • Carolina Camacho and Madison Koeller each posted double-digit assists for the Black and Gold.

  • This victory marks Bryant's third sweep of the season (Previous: 9/1 vs Siena & 9/2 vs. Lafayette).

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs will travel to Providence on Friday where they will take part in the  Friar Classic against Central Connecticut, Saint Peter's, and Providence College on Friday and Saturday.
